Babus at HMDA and Netas in Hyderabad want to study traffic profiles in Hyderabad.: HMDA to carry out study on city traffic profile. This is an attempt to help them in this near the HITEC city area
HMDA and GHMC Babus and/or Netas decided to build a flyover near the Cyber Towers intersection in HITEC city/Madhapur. This when completed will make the traffic signal free from HITEC city north towards KPHB/Kukatpally and the reverse direction. This still leaves all the other directions of traffic at the mercy of traffic cops, weather and density of traffic.
The flyover will hopefully help
1. Going straight North from HITEC city straight towards KPHB
2. Going straight South from KPHB straight towards HITEC city
It is not clear how the following directions of traffic interchange will be handled:
3. Going North from HITEC city and turning (left) west towards Kothaguda
4. Going North from HITEC city and turning (right) east towards Madhapur and Jubilee hills
5. Going Straight East from Kothaguda towards Madhapur
6. Going Straight West from Madhapur towards Kothaguda
7. Going South from KPHB and turning east (left) towards Madhapur
8. Going South from KPHB and turning west (right) towards Kothaguda
9. Going East from Kothaguda and turning North (left) towards KPHB
10. Going East from Kothaguda and turning South (right) towards HITEC city
11. Going West from Madhapur and turning North (right) towards KPHB
12. Going West from Madhapur and South (left) towards HITEC city
In the meantime, during this construction, traffic is in complete chaos during peak hours between 9-10 AM and 6PM to 8PM, with the evening being significantly worse. Diversions by the traffic police help move away the choke points to farther away from the flyover area, at least during the mornings.
In the mornings, traffic towards HITEC city vie for the limited road space with mainly 5. and 6.
In the evenings, traffic away from the HITEC city vie for the road with various streams from the list above. A complicated circulation pattern keeps traffic inching along (till a serious monsoon event disrupts the traffic massively).
Making the general traffic worse, especially for pedestrians are indiscriminate digging, lack of pedestrian walkways and road-crossing mechanisms, lack of storm water drains and heavy densification of the HITEC city area without dealing with improving transportation bandwidth.
Digging in Monsoon: Add to the general chaos are the digging works done by HMDA or one of its actors (for example next to Shilpakalavedika, a massive trench was dug late june and filled up; The same stretch was dug up again in July and filledup. Someone is making a living doing this digging and filling, but it sure is making life difficult for a lot of people)
Private construction activity spilling over to HITEC city road: A massive complex is being built next to Cyber gateway and invariably the construction vehicles - mainly cement mixers are parked on the road. The giant gantry crane lifts cement containers into the property over the traffic without any barricade. Adding to the misery of the hapless pedestrians and the traffic are massive puddles of water in this stretch of the HITEC city road.

Terrible monsoon traffic jam from HITEC city towards Miyapur
Hyderabad was caught with its fly open on 17th Aug 2010 with heavy monsoon rains. Traffic from HITEC city towards Kothaguda, Kondapur, Hafizpet and Miyapur were jammed for several hours from 7 to 12PM. Traffic police mostly watched helplessly. One key blockage was a badly paved part of Gachibowli-Miyapur road near the Rangareddy RTO Office : One side of the road was flooded and traffic towards Miyapur took to using the opposite side of the road, slowing down both directions.
Related TOI report: City drenched, traffic goes haywire
HITEC city to Miyapur route
The 3 km stretch from HITEC city to Kondapur which normally takes 15 mins in peak traffic took close to an hour.
Even an alternate route near the Novotel was eventually choked.
A sad recurrence every year during monsoons due to official apathy and a general refusal by citizens to engage the government - Lack of /storm water drains in these new and posh areas, haphazard traffic planning, a complete lack of consideration towards pedestrians, intentional digging-up of roads during monsoon season, lack of zoning restrictions and sloppy and ill-planned construction projects.

Road destroyed by HMWSSB works, made worse by rain
Road connecting Gachibowli-Miyapur road (from Kondapur) to HITEX road in Hyderabad, which provides bypass to the busy Kothaguda Junction, was dug up for some HMWSSB work. Today it was a complete mess, made worse by the rain. Only one side was open for vehicles to pass though, and created a huge back-up.
