Terrible monsoon traffic jam from HITEC city towards Miyapur

Hyderabad was caught with its fly open on 17th Aug 2010 with heavy monsoon rains. Traffic from HITEC city towards Kothaguda, Kondapur, Hafizpet and Miyapur were jammed for several hours from 7 to 12PM. Traffic police mostly watched helplessly. One key blockage was a badly paved part of Gachibowli-Miyapur road near the Rangareddy RTO Office : One side of the road was flooded and traffic towards Miyapur took to using the opposite side of the road, slowing down both directions.

Related TOI report: City drenched, traffic goes haywire

HITEC city to Miyapur route

The 3 km stretch from HITEC city to Kondapur which normally takes 15 mins in peak traffic took close to an hour.

Even an alternate route near the Novotel was eventually choked.

A sad recurrence every year during monsoons due to official apathy and a general refusal by citizens to engage the government - Lack of /storm water drains in these new and posh areas, haphazard traffic planning, a complete lack of consideration towards pedestrians, intentional digging-up of roads during monsoon season, lack of zoning restrictions and sloppy and ill-planned construction projects.
